YMCA South Midlands and Landsec Team Up to Support Young People into Work

YMCA South Midlands and Landsec, owner of Xscape Milton Keynes, have joined forces to help more young people access employment opportunities and gain the skills and confidence needed to build successful careers.

The new partnership builds on the employment support already delivered by YMCA South Midlands, which includes CV writing workshops, job application guidance and help exploring career, training and apprenticeship opportunities. By combining this work with Landsec’s commitment to supporting 30,000 people from underrepresented backgrounds into long-term employment through initiatives such as work placements and internships, the partnership will help connect more young people in Milton Keynes with employers, mentors and opportunities to develop their skills and confidence.

To kick-start the partnership, Xscape Milton Keynes has donated £2,000 to support YMCA South Midlands’ work, as well as providing space within the centre to help the charity raise additional funds and further develop its project. The partnership comes as youth unemployment remains a challenge across the UK, with around one million 16 to 24-year-olds not currently in education, employment or training.

Elliot Moore, Employment Coach at YMCA South Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Landsec to create more opportunities for young people in Milton Keynes. Together, we can connect young people with employers, experiences and support that can make a real difference to their futures.”

Dan Murphy, Centre Director at Xscape Milton Keynes, said: “Our partnership with YMCA South Midlands will support young people in the city to build confidence, develop valuable skills and access opportunities that can support their journey into employment.

“As a leisure destination rooted in the local community, we recognise the important role we can play in creating opportunities and supporting organisations that make a real difference. Through this partnership, we hope to give the confidence and skills to explore new possibilities, develop their potential and take positive steps towards a brighter future.”

By bringing together YMCA South Midlands’ experience supporting young people and Landsec’s business connections, we hope to open more doors for young people in the local community and we’re proud to play our part in making this happen.
