Taking on a 56km ultramarathon is an incredible challenge, demanding both physical endurance and mental strength. For Adam, the Shires & Spires ultra was about more than reaching the finish line it was a chance to push beyond his comfort zone while supporting a cause he deeply believes in.
Driven by the idea that growth happens when we challenge ourselves, Adam committed to months of disciplined training. Long runs, strength sessions, and consistent effort helped him build not only resilience, but the mindset needed to keep going when things got tough. This journey was as much about mental determination as it was about physical preparation.
At the heart of Adam’s challenge was his passion for YMCA’s work with young people. He understands that not everyone starts life with the same opportunities, and that having access to safe spaces, guidance, and encouragement can change the course of a young person’s future. That belief fuelled every step of his run and inspired his fundraising efforts.
By sharing his journey and engaging friends, colleagues, and supporters, Adam raised vital funds to help provide mentoring, activities, and opportunities for young people. Along the way, he was struck by the generosity and encouragement he received, support that kept him motivated through the hardest days.
Only 1 in 7 million people ever complete an ultramarathon, and Adam is now one of them. His achievement reflects months of hard work, resilience, and determination to keep going despite the challenges. Crossing the finish line marked not just the end of a race, but the culmination of a journey driven by purpose.
What makes Adam’s contribution even more meaningful is his ongoing commitment as a volunteer mentor. By giving his time and support directly to young people, he is helping build confidence, direction, and belief in those who need it most.
Adam, thank you for everything you have done. Thank you for pushing yourself to achieve something extraordinary, for raising funds that will make a real difference, and for the time and care you give as a mentor. Your dedication and generosity are truly inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful to have you supporting YMCA.
